"The Volgermeer Recreated"

Amsterdam’s domestic rubbish was used to fill the holes that remained after the peat gathering in the Volgermeer. It later transpired that it was not only domestic rubbish that was used to fill the holes, but chemical waste too. This was the Netherlands’ worst pollution scandal.

The paradox of creating “new nature” in this waste belt was the reason for us to document this process.
For two and a half years we visually documented the last phase of the creation of the new natural area. It was an ode to the resilience of nature.
